Available Critters - Guilford County Animal Shelter
Last updated July 2, 2008
The shelter is open 7 days a week to the public 12:00 to 6:00 Monday thru Saturday, 1:00 to 5:00 on Sunday, with the exception of some Holidays.
Please note that the selection of "critters" or "Pocket Pets" (as we call our small friends) available for adoption can change on a daily basis, as space becomes available in the Front Lobby.
- Write down the pet identification number for reference.
- If the particular pet you are interested in already has a new home, please stop in to visit the shelter anyway as new pets are added regularly.
- The Shelter always has a great selection of companions, and the perfect one is probably waiting just for you.
- While this site is updated as often as possible, please contact the shelter at (336) 297-5020 to confirm the availability of the pet you are interested in, or you
can email the Shelter. - Please refer to the intake number when inquiring about a particular animal.
- All "Critters" will be spayed or neutered before leaving the shelter and their adoption fee is only $5.00 (and up), depending on species. Please contact the shelter for pricing of the specific animal you are interested in.
When you visit the shelter, if you don't see the pet you are interested in, please inquire; sometimes they have just been moved to another location in the shelter.
We need good homes with loving companions too.

Peanut (ID #4376922) is a colorful Dutch rabbit; he is tricolored with white, black and brown. Peanut was surrendered when the previous owner could not afford to keep him. ADOPTED! Ivory (ID #4346936) is a white rat that was surrendered because of allergies for the previous owner. Ivory is friendly and curious when she is not snuggled up under her bedding napping the day away. Ivory’s adoption fee is only $5. *Located in the surgery building.. |
Whiskers (ID #4690930) is a sweetheart. He is a brown and white male hamster that was found by a caring person. Whiskers is friendly and likes to be held. If you have other pets too, he can safely play in a hamster ball rolling around on the floor, and it is fun and healthy for him to do even if you don’t have other pets. Adoption fee is $15 and Whiskers is. *Located in the front lobby. |
Zuko (ID #5296941) is a beautiful Dwarf rabbit. She is almost all white, but has grey around the outside of her ears and a spot on her little tail. She liked getting some petting from me, as she is missing her previous family. She was surrendered when they moved.
Lucky (ID #4651395) was not so lucky since he lost his home due to the failing health of his owner. Lucky is a grey adult Dutch rabbit that has been neutered. He appreciated and responded well to some attention and touch.
Paisley (ID #4610744) is a cute black and white Dwarf rabbit that was found hopping about by Animal Control. Paisley is an adult and has been neutered, making him available to go home with you today.
Poor little Gretchen (ID #4761524) was surrendered because the previous owners brought home the new baby. You can tell that Gretchen is accustomed to interaction with people; just give her a minute to sniff you and find you’ll be gentle when you share some attention with her. She is a brown and white adult female Guinea Pig. Adoption fee is $15.
Marshmellow (ID #4757941) lost her home when her owner was moving. Now she is hoping to find a nice patient new companion to care for her. She is an adult and all white Guinea Pig that has become a little shy, but a calm loving person will help her to relax and enjoy life.
Hammy (ID #4405910) is an adult salt & pepper grey Lop eared rabbit. He was spotted and brought in by Animal Control. Since his arrival Hammy has been neutered. He is very socialized and truly enjoys getting some petting and quiet words spoken to him. Adoption fee is $15.
Poor Butter (ID #4695599) was surrendered when they brought home the baby from the hospital. Butter is accustomed to interacting with her caregiver and liked the petting I shared with her. Butter is a brown adult Dutch rabbit that has already been spayed. Adoption fee is only $15 for rabbits.
