Available Cats - Guilford County Animal Shelter
Last updated June 19th, 2008
The Shelter is open to the public 7 days a week from 12:00 to 6:00 Monday thru Saturday, 1:00 to 5:00 on Sunday with some Holiday exceptions.
Please note that the selection of cats available for adoption changes on a daily basis.
- Write down the pet identification number for reference.
- If the particular pet you are interested in already has a new home, please stop to visit the shelter as new cats are ready to be moved into adoptions on a daily basis.
- The Shelter always has a great selection of companions, and the perfect one is probably waiting just for you.
- The Shelter can not "hold" any animal, it is strictly on a first come first serve basis.
- While this site is updated as often as possible, please contact the shelter at (336) 297-5020 to confirm the availability of the pet you are interested in, or you
can email the Shelter. - Please refer to the intake number when inquiring about a particular animal.
- Cat adoptions are $80 and all cat adoptions include: a full body check, initial vaccinations, a rabies vaccination, feline leukemia test, flea treatment, deworming if needed, a microchip, spay or neuter services and 1 month of free pet insurance. Thanks to the grant from Bayer HealthCare, we also provide a training CD for your newly adopted cat or dog.
Please remember to spay or neuter your pets.
Together we can prevent euthanasia by preventing surplus births.
Didn't see the "purr-fect" cat for you?
If after a visit to the shelter you don't see the new friend you have been looking for, you can stop at the customer service desk and complete the "Perfect Pet" form, or by calling 336-297-5020. When a match is coming up for adoption you could get the call with the option to adopt.
When you visit the shelter, if you don't see the pet you were interested in, please inquire at the front desk. Sometimes they have just been moved to another area of the shelter.
SPRING, it is that time of year once again when we desperately need FOSTER PARENTS for kittens and puppies. It is a short-term commitment, usually only 2-8 weeks with medical care provided by the shelter.
Is your next "best friend" waiting here?
Now, located @ PetSmart off Lawndale. Unfortunately, the health of her previous owner was failing, and Angel (ID #4633134) had to be surrendered. She was a faithful loving companion to her owner for 12 years and now finds herself in need of your generosity to offer a peaceful “rest home” for her golden years. She just wants to explore far enough to find a quiet comfortable corner to cat nap in and come and go as she pleases. After 12 years, Angel is going to get the relief of being spayed. Does your heart expand far enough to include this Angel? She could end up being your Angel too! |
Have you ever felt the need for hope in your life? Now, you can get it daily! Hope (ID #617069) has high hopes herself? This girl is confident and loving; she doesn’t want toys to hold her attention, she just wants your affection and companionship. She is a lovely girl in black with a few white markings and she is about 7 years old and already spayed, so she can leave today. She still has several years left to share her love with you; she wants to give you Hope. |
Handsome long haired male seeks a loving relationship! Shane (ID #4353383) came off the streets by way of Animal Control. He is very content to have a climate controlled environment, a dry bed and room service to clean and bring in his meals; what a step up! Now he just needs a commitment from a cat lover to make him completely happy. He is 3 years old and is black with a white chest. |
A typical laid back orange tabby, Roy (ID #4693903) doesn’t seem to have any concerns. He was recently neutered here at the shelter and he is only 7 months old now. Roy was found on the streets as a kitten by Animal Control, so now it is time for Roy to find his purr-fect caregiver and new home. Roy is going to lower your blood pressure and maybe the lap cat you have always wanted. |
Trible (ID #4320494) is anxious to get some affection, to know that he is accepted and cared about. Trible is a demonstrative 3 year old brown tabby that was rubbing his head up on anything to let you know he wanted some scratches and he will “talk” to you. Since Animal Control brought this boy in he has been neutered so that he will no longer contribute to his line of descendants. If you like an attentive feline, then you should consider giving Trible a membership in your household. |
Now located @ PetSmart off Lawndale.
This is a pretty big boy at just over 16 pounds. Diego (ID #4263216) is an attractive long haired Maine Coon. He and his previous owner were cheerless the day he was surrendered for personal problems. He was previously neutered and is now 8 years old and Diego does like to be talked to. You could make Diego very happy if you need a companion that you can talk to around the house who won’t talk back! There are always more shelter cats at this PetSmart location to choose from too. |

She will soon be spayed by the caring surgical team. Ginger would love to have you to play with her and give her a permanent home. |

Snowball, 2 years old, has been spayed since coming to the shelter and when Snowboard, now 4 months, was big enough, he was neutered too. Snowboard is the spitting image of his mom, solid white. Snowball is calm and laid back, but remains tolerant to the kitten when he gets frisky and very playful with her. |

Zoe is very curious and alert to all that is going on outside of her kennel. She misses having a home to call her own complete with her very own caregiver. Can you correct this for Zoe? |

Stretch it out girl. Kael (ID #4047774) has been a very quiet girl. She was surrendered when her previous owner had too many personal problems to deal with. Kael is a nice girl and will sit up to see what is going on at times, but she is prone to cat nap a lot. Kael is 2 years old and has been spayed to ensure she doesn’t produce litters of kittens in her future. When she gets your acceptance and attention she may be your best friend ever. |
Angel (ID #4161589) is not your typically colored black and white feline; she has spots of black on her face that makes her markings unique in her medium length fur. She is friendly to people and was curious about the feather at first, but at the last “take”, she lost her patience with it and swatted at it. She should be the only cat of the home since she doesn't tolerate other felines. Angel was found by a kind person and brought to the shelter for her own safety. She is 2 ½ years old and she will never have to be concerned with another litter of kittens again; she has been spayed. She could be the Angel looking over your shoulder for you. |
Isn’t Samson (ID #4206483) a handsome guy? He looks like he is posing for his family portrait for you. Samson is calm, confident and serene, but would be most content if he had a caregiver to call his own. He is a 2 year old longhaired orange tabby that was found by Animal Control. He must have had a previous owner because he is already neutered; so he could go home with his new best friend today. |
Elvira (ID #4272969) is deliberate and leisurely in her pursuit of satisfying her curiosity; her nature is not to be rushed. She is a 2 year old grey tabby that must have had a home at one time, as she was already spayed when she arrived at the shelter. Animal Control was called to bring her in from a veterinarian’s office in the eastern part of the county where she was found. Elvira will be a contented member of the family when you take her home. |
Despite that intense look, Dharma ( ID #3764346) is friendly, loving, inquisitive and curious and will come to explore who is at the door. She was brought to the shelter by Animal Control. Three year old Dharma looks solid black, but they have her as having some grey in her coat too. To prevent Dharma from adding to the pet population she has been spayed. She is no lump of coal, she is your shinning diamond that really wants a loving companion to share her life with. |
|
Lupo (ID #4225894) is an attractive 4 year old grey and cream tabby that was found by Animal Control. He is quiet in his kennel, but would relax and be happier to have room to roam and investigate at his will, then come to you for a nice rub down. Lupo will no longer father any more kittens, as he has been neutered while he is in our care at the shelter. |
Sarah (ID #4201992) was surrendered to the shelter, but no reason was given. She is a content and laid back girl who just wants some love and gentle petting. Sarah is only 1 ½ years old and she has been spayed as part of her adoption fee. Don’t you have a warm lap that this girl would love to sit on? |
He is a lover boy! |
Mousetooth (ID #4397040) looks like she just may make a great mouser, but looks are deceiving as she has never lived outside in her life! She has focus and intensity in her observation, but it isn't the hunting instinct! Mousetooth was surrendered when her family was moving and they couldn’t take her along. She is almost 2 ½ years old and is a lovely black and orange calico. Very soon Mousetooth will be spayed so that she doesn’t add any more descendents to pet population. Mousetooth is just wanting to have a permanent companion to care for her and share some quiet loving time. |
|
Willy (ID #4314985) is such a gentleman. He is very easy going and docile and still enjoys getting some scratches and petting. Willy was surrendered as too much responsibility, and they did have him previously neutered. He is now 10 years old and still wants to be a quiet loving companion to someone special. |

Dusty is the easily identifiable one being a grey tabby and these rest are all solid black. They are all very spunky and playful, wanting to run, pounce, swat and be active! They are only 4 months old now. Dusty and Stable are spayed females and Tux and Patches are black neutered males. |
He looks so innocent here while being held, but watch out, Zack (ID #4688893) usually acts like he is on the football team, running and tackling his teammates! Zack is one of the siblings that were surrendered because they couldn’t afford to keep and care for all the kittens. Zack has some brown tabby looks with a lot of white in his coat. He is 4 months old and the surgical team has already neutered him, making him ready to leave with you today. |

She is alert to her surroundings, loving and just plain sweet. She was found by a caring citizen that was concerned for her safety on the street. Jelly has been spayed and now just wants some loving attention and a permanent companion to share life with. |
Nigel (ID #4624114) is alert but mostly calm and much quieter than his fellow kennelmates, however he will join in the fun for a little while sometimes too. Nigel is just 4 months old and was surrendered with his litter mates because the previous owner could not afford to care for all of them. He is a grey tabby with a medium length coat and he is already neutered for you. He will grow into a handsome guy and be your fur-ever companion. |

Tonka (ID #4614843) can play hard. Tonka was found with some other kittens by a responsible person who brought them to the shelter to find good homes. Tonka is a white and orange tabby that is 4 months old now and he has just been neutered recently. Tonka is the only one left in his group, so he needs a loving person to come adopt him and let him explore his new home. Tonka will bring you many laughs as he grows up.

His previous owner did have Pepsi neutered, so he can go home with you right now. He is only 1 ½ years old. Pepsi would be grateful for a permanent home with loving companions.
Isn’t Penny (ID #4603780) a lovely long haired grey? She was lucky enough to be found by a caring person that was looking out for her welfare. Penny is about 3 years old, has yellow eyes and has been spayed since coming into the shelter. She is calm, quiet and hopeful for a chance to have a long lasting relationship with a committed new owner.
It is not Halloween yet, but it is time to get your Pumpkin (ID #4733448). After spending some time out in the hot weather on the street, Pumpkin is happy and content to relax in her environment controlled accommodations and thankful to Animal Control for bringing her here. She has such a soft medium length orange tabby coat and is about 1 ½ years old. Pumpkin will soon visit the surgical team and be spayed so that she doesn’t contribute any more “pumpkin seeds” to the homeless pet population ever again. Let this pumpkin wear the happy face of belonging and being loved.
There is no storm brewing, it is the happy sounds of Thunder (ID #4727078). He was so happy to be held, that he just laid back and started purring! Even though Thunder was found by Animal Control, he must have had a previous owner as he was already neutered and he loves people. Thunder is about 5 years old and he is solid black with a mahogany highlight throughout his fur.
Nellie (ID #4364374) is a beautiful and curious long haired brown Maine Coon mix. She was surrendered because she doesn’t like children. I’ll bet children are drawn to that lovely long hair and want to feel it, but they don’t always stroke or pet gently. Nellie is 7 years old and was previously spayed by her caring owners. Nellie does like to play with toys and enjoys having some fun. This girl still has many years to share with you, let her be your comfort and you offer her the comfort of a home without young children.

Ingred is black with a few longer white hairs sticking out here and there. She is now 4 months old, got her vaccinations and has been spayed so she doesn’t put a future generation through the early start she had.
A kindhearted person found Bobbie (ID #4391276) with his sister as tiny abandoned kittens. A foster home gave them a good start to life, now they just are waiting for you to share it. She’s back, but not in the movie theatre! Big Momma (ID #4646825) was found by Animal Control when she was pregnant. She and her kittens went to a foster home to give her a peaceful time to nurse the babies. Now Big Momma is hopeful of finding a permanent home for herself. She is white and black and is about 1 ½ years old. After giving her kittens a good start, she was spayed. You know you are bound to enjoy having Big Momma at your house. Come get her today.
Something caught his attention! Mist (ID #4618575) is a really nice boy that needs some good luck. He was originally surrendered because they had too many animals; then Mist got adopted but was returned within the week as too noisy. So….just maybe, the third time will be the charm! Mist is very loving and does enjoy having your attention; and he is a “talker”. Too bad we don’t understand “cat meows”, but we meow back to him and have a nice conversation; we just don’t know what we have told him! Mist is solid grey, 2 ½ years old and was previously neutered. Give this boy a chance for a long life as your loyal companion; he is a great boy with personality.
Juno (ID #4393972) was very laid back and quiet till the toy came out, then it was “play time”, from a horizontal position only thougnh. Juno is almost all black except for small spots of white on her throat and underarms (that is kind of different). She is 10 months old and was spotted surviving on the street by Animal Control. Juno has made one more visit to the shelter’s veterinarian to be spayed. This girl may just make a very nice lap companion for you. She is a favorite of some of the kennel attendents, loving and calm; a good combination.
What a great boy Salem (ID #4355453) is. He is very laid back and content, but when he is wanting you to continue with some attention, he rolls over to play cute. He is mostly black, except for a small white patch on his tummy. Salem was surrendered because they didn’t have time to care for him. He is now 1 year and 2 months old and will have a lifetime to bring joy to you. Salem has been to visit one last time with the shelter’s veterinarian to be neutered. Come see if Salem can cast a love spell over you.
Mr. Peeps (ID #4610649) is reluctant to do much, he just is enjoying having a safe haven where he gets room service, maid service and a temperature controlled climate! He was found by a considerate gentleman at one of the ball games one night; but no one came to claim Mr. Peeps as their “peeps”. Mr. Peeps is a 1 year old orange tabby who has been neutered since his arrival here at the shelter. He is ready to hold your couch or bed down for you while your away!
Luckily, Greyland (ID #4682145) was saved from possible disaster by a kind Animal Control officer. She is a loving, curious girl whose purr button is easily activated it seems. Greyland has a medium length coat of solid grey. She is 2 years old and she has been spayed since coming to the shelter. She loved the affection she got here, can you offer her daily gentle loving?
Gracie (ID #4743295) is observant and watchful of her surroundings when she isn’t cat napping. Gracie was surrendered because she didn’t like the other animals in the home, so she would probably be best off being your only pet in the home. She is now 4 years old and will go to visit with the surgical team soon to be spayed. Gracie is a lovely grey with white markings and she has pink eyes.
Happie (ID #4541836) is a calm girl that was found by Animal Control trying to stay safe on the streets of the county. She seems laid back and doesn’t know what to think about a toy in front of her. Happie is a lovely calico with green eyes. She is 2 years old and has been spayed since her arrival at the shelter. You can make Happie really happy with a safe home to call her own.
Sunspot (ID #3863605) and Elvis (ID #3863579) have been patiently waiting for a new home since last November. They came in together via Animal Control and we are really hopeful that they will be adopted together as it appears they have always been together. Both Sunspot and Elvis are now 6 years old and must have had a previous owner and they were neutered before they ever came to the shelter. Sunspot has just a nub of a tail and is more adventurous, while Elvis has a cleft lip and is content to lay back and take it all in and would probably enjoy his relaxing mode on your lap. They sooth and comfort each other but would love to have a kind person to share the personal touch with them.
If you look at the adopted cats below (not from the PetSmart location), the kittens are getting adopted quickly, but the adults and older felines need a permanent loving home too!
Purdy (ID #4625282) was in a deep sleep when I came in. Once she got awake, she showed a little curiosity in the commotion one of her neighbors was making. Purdy has a medium length grey tabby coat. She is 3 years old and was just spayed. Animal Control got her safely off the street so that you could be her loving companion and share your home with this pretty girl.
She is friendly and would dearly love to come right out and get some attention. Soopy (ID #4127146) sits hopeful after I wouldn’t let her get down. She is lovely in her black and white tuxedo and a white strip down the bridge of her nose. She is just over 1 ½ years old and Soopy has been spayed since coming to the shelter by way of an Animal Control officer. Don’t leave Soopy stewing, she deserves your loving care.
Sam (ID #4654733) has a quiet dignity about him. He is confident and regal in the way he comes across. Sam was found and brought to the shelter by a nice Animal Control officer. But Sam didn’t have anyone come looking to claim this handsome boy. Sam has the classic black and white tuxedo look, he is just 1 year old and he is now neutered. Sam wants to share his whole life with his new best friend.
Harriet (ID #4639856) does have a distinguishing mark of grey that makes her look like she has a big nose! She is a beige and grey calico that is about 4 years old. She is quiet and peaceful in her kennel, but is ready for a little attention when you come close. Harriet has been spayed since she came to us, now she is hopeful that someone will just love her pretty grey nose and want to take her home with them.
Manie (ID #4613120) has an innocent yet inquisitive look on her face like she is waiting to see if you are going to be the person to claim her as part of your family. Manie was found by a responsible person who didn’t want harm to come to her, so they brought Manie to the shelter in hopes of her owner coming to find her. No one came. Manie is a grey tabby that is 1 ½ years old and she will “talk” to you if you don’t talk to her first when you come in. Manie has been spayed, so she can go to her new home right now!
Bug (ID #683068) has a big stretch after her cat nap. She is a sweet natured brown tabby that was adopted from this shelter two years ago as a kitten; but was recently found by a kind stranger and brought into the shelter. We could not locate the owner of record and they did not come for Bug. She is now 2 ½ years old and was previously spayed. Give Bug a chance to win your heart, she wants to be your lifelong buddy.
Zoe (ID #664040) was adopted from this shelter 3 ½ years ago as a tiny kitten, but recently returned due to developing allergies. Zoe is very curious and alert to all that is going on outside of her kennel. She is a lovely tuxedo black and white with 4 white paws and she will no longer have any concerns for future kittens as soon as she is spayed. She misses having a home to call her own complete with her very own caregiver. Can you correct this for Zoe?
Star (ID #4662008) was found by a nice person not wanting harm to come to Star. Star is colored white with the markings of a grey tabby and she has green eyes. Star has been spayed since coming to us and she is 3 years old. She is content and mild mannered here at the shelter, but she would love to have a human to call her own.
“Ohh, that feels so good!” says Tigger (ID #670159). Tigger just loves to be petted and fed (if you can’t tell). He is a 3 ½ year old orange tabby, typically a couch potato. Tigger was returned after being previously adopted 1 ½ years ago, as needing too much attention; but look at the joy and contentment a little attention gives him. He was surrendered prior to the last adoption when they brought home their new baby from the hospital. Tigger was neutered long ago and is more than ready to find his human to become devoted and loyal to. Can you stop the “boomerang” effect that Tigger has suffered and be committed to give him a permanent home with loving caregivers?
This girl is the Diva (ID #4326180), and she seems to know it! It looks like the ends of her long haired black coat turn dark brown in places, like a highlight. This”diva” was kept from a cat-astrophe by a kind Animal Control person, who got her safely off the street. Diva enjoys having some attention if you will stop and share a moment with her. She will soon make one more visit to the shelter’s vet to be spayed. In the meantime, she can still be adopted!
Ishmal (ID #4397081) is a laid back and quiet guy who was saddened to find himself being surrendered when his owner moved. He is content to observe what goes on, and was not impressed with a toy dangling near. Ishaml is a colorful boy with greys, orange and white. He is 2 years and 9 months old and his previous owner had him neutered long ago. Ishmal will be happy to adorn your bed or even better, decorate your windowsill. He was surrendered with Mousetooth, but it was suggested that he may prefer to be the only feline in your home.
Butch is confident and a bit nosy; he likes to check out what is going on outside his door. He is friendly and curious about it, not antagonistic at all. Butch is a 3 year old black and white tuxedo boy that was brought to us by Animal Control. Butch has been neutered and is hopeful that a new kind companion will bring him home with them. Just ask for ID #4018234.
He is not that old; 2 ½ year old Bubba (ID #4399365) must carry a “couch potato” gene since he is about as languid as he could be! Bubba was found by Animal Control and maybe he just is so content with a climate controlled dry environment, regular feedings and a maid service provided to clean that he is relaxing for every moment of it. Bubba is solid white and has just been for his last visit with the shelter’s surgical team, he is now neutered. If you want a cat, but not a very active one, then you must come meet Bubba.
Willy (ID #4314985) is such a gentleman. He is very easy going and docile and still enjoys getting some scratches and petting. Willy was surrendered as too much responsibility, and they did have him previously neutered. He is now 10 years old and still wants to be a quiet loving companion to someone special.
Rae (ID #4367894) has had her last litter of kittens; she has been spayed now since coming to the shelter. She was surrendered because they could no longer afford to keep her. Rae is calm and sweet natured but enjoys having playtime sometimes too. She is only 1 ½ years old and has a short black coat that she likes to have you pet. She wants to spend many years sharing your life.
Mysterie (ID #627789) is not happy about loosing her loving family & home (that she had since 2002), but she was returned to the shelter because they are moving. She is now 7 years old, solid grey and was previously spayed long ago. She still has many years to be part of your life and it would make her very happy to have a caring forever companion again.
This big girl is Lucy (ID #4241907) and she was found by a person concerned that she lost her owner, but no one has come to claim Lucy. Lucy really enjoys getting some affection and attention, and having her own room service! But she would most like to have a family and home again. Lucy is a brown tabby with a white throat and tummy that is about 10 years old. At long last, Lucy can look forward to being spayed soon! Do you have a nice sunny spot Lucy could enjoy lying in during her senior years? She would be most grateful to you.
The Captain (ID #4257791) is all comfy and unconcerned here in the shelter. Captain is laid back and enjoys getting some kind attention from you. He is 2 ½ years old and has a medium length black coat. Even though he was found on the street by Animal Control, he must have had a loving home at one time, as he was previously neutered and is so friendly. Captain needs his own “ship” to take command of once again. He hopes you have just the purr-fect place to bring him home to.
Solid black, Dracula (ID #4404098) was found by a caring person that was concerned for the cat’s safety. Dracula was a little scared by the flash of the camera, but he wasn’t hesitant at all when it came to getting some petting. He is 4 years old and has been neutered since coming into the shelter. This Dracula doesn’t want to draw blood or drink your blood, but to lower your blood pressure by having a soft furry friend to stroke and love.
Baby Girl (ID #4652430) sure doesn’t look or act her age! She was surrendered recently when they discovered they were allergic to her after all these years. Baby Girl is about 10 years old and she was previously spayed by her responsible owners. She is calm and peaceful in her kennel as she watches what is going on around her. She enjoys some head scratches and affection, but she doesn’t seem to “demand” it. Baby Girl is hopeful that some empathetic person will offer her a “retirement home” for her to relax in during her “golden years”.
